2026 Toyota Tacoma Full Auto Detail in Gastonia, NC

This Ice Cap white Tacoma TRD Off-Road looked clean when it was purchased new, but it had never gone through normal dealership preparation. Months later, a visible mark on the tailgate led to a closer inspection, a quick polishing correction, and a complete Full Auto Detail to properly clean, finish, and protect the truck.

The Story Behind the Detail

A brand-new truck that had never been dealership-prepped.

The Tacoma was purchased from an out-of-state dealership after the detailing staff had already left for the day. It had essentially come off transport, gone onto the lot, and then been transferred to its new owner. Protective plastic was still covering much of the interior, and the truck had never gone through the dealership's normal preparation and detailing process.

At first, that did not seem like a problem. The truck was new and looked great. Several months later, however, a long mark appeared across the tailgate. On a nearly new truck, it looked like the kind of scratch that might have been caused when someone brushed against the paint with a button, zipper, or another small metal object.

Inspection and Correction

The scratch was not the only thing Donnie noticed.

After inspecting the tailgate, Donnie believed the mark was shallow enough that polishing could likely correct it rather than requiring paint repair.

He applied polish to the affected area and, within minutes, the visible mark was gone. During the same inspection, Donnie noticed that the paint appeared to have little or no protective wax or finishing product on it.

Once he learned that the truck had never been processed by the dealership, that condition made sense. Donnie explained why proper cleaning and paint protection matter even on a new vehicle, especially when the factory finish has not received normal delivery preparation.

Important: This project does not mean every new vehicle leaves a dealership without protection. Dealer preparation varies. This particular Tacoma had not been processed before delivery, which is why a condition-based inspection mattered.

What Firestone Did

A true inside-and-out Full Auto Detail.

The next available appointment was booked online, the Tacoma was dropped off that morning, and Donnie completed a thorough Full Auto Detail based on the truck's actual condition.

Exterior and protection

Paint, trim, wheels, and lower areas

  • Thorough exterior wash
  • Wax applied across the exterior paint
  • Tailgate area polished to remove the visible mark
  • Exterior trim cleaned and dressed
  • Wheels and tires cleaned and polished
  • Wheel wells cleaned
  • Undercarriage cleaned
  • Door jambs cleaned
Interior and engine bay

Cabin, glass, mats, and under-hood presentation

  • Interior vacuumed and wiped down
  • Floor mats cleaned
  • Protectant applied to interior surfaces
  • Interior and exterior glass cleaned
  • Engine bay and accessible components cleaned
  • Engine-bay surfaces finished with a clean shine
The goal was not simply to make a new truck look clean. It was to properly finish, protect, and detail the Tacoma in the areas that had never been addressed before delivery.

The Finished Result

Better than the day it came home from the dealership.

The improvement went beyond simply being clean. The Tacoma's Ice Cap white paint had a deeper gloss and a smoother, cleaner appearance. The wheels were brighter, the tires had a darker finished look, the interior looked properly completed, the glass was clearer, and the cleaned engine bay made the entire truck feel finished from top to bottom.

  • Deeper, glossier white paint
  • Smoother, cleaner-feeling finish
  • Brighter wheels and darker tires
  • Cleaned wheel wells and undercarriage
  • Finished interior surfaces and mats
  • Clear interior and exterior glass
  • Clean, dressed engine bay
  • Visible tailgate mark successfully polished away

A Useful Lesson From This Project

New does not always mean fully detailed.

A new vehicle can look excellent while still benefiting from a professional condition check. Dealer preparation varies, and some vehicles may reach an owner with little preparation beyond transport and delivery.

This Tacoma is a good example of why Firestone evaluates the vehicle in front of them instead of assuming its needs based only on age. The visible tailgate mark was corrected quickly, but the inspection also revealed an opportunity to properly clean, finish, and protect the rest of the truck.
